Organelle Genomes

In this paper, published in 2018 in The Plant Journal, I took a deep dive into the genetics of the neglected organelles of the unicellular alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. In this work, I produced highly accurate de novo assemblies of the genomes of the chloroplast and mitochondrion, demonstrated how these were more accurate than previously available versions, compared the genetic diversity of the organelle genomes, and explored the transcriptome of these organelles. Along the way, I discovered that mitochondrion-encoded mRNA transcripts have cytosine-rich poly-nucleotide tails.  You can read that work here.
